The Oncology Conditioning program is designed to help patients return to physical activity after intensive cancer treatment and provide all patients with help in coping with direct or indirect effects of cancer.
The Post-Mastectomy Program focuses on many elements noted in the Oncology conditioning program as well as addressing the specific deficits following mastectomy procedures. These deficits may include mobility deficits in the shoulder, arm and neck as well as lymphedema.
Lymphedema is the buildup of lymph in the tissues, mainly in the fat just under the skin, and is caused by a problem in the lymphatic system. Lymphedema is an abnormal collection of too much tissue protein, fluid (edema), chronic inflammation, and thickening and scarring of connective tissue. The symptoms of lymphedema may vary, but often include:
swelling in a limb or body part
a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the affected area, often resulting in loss of mobility
"strongKudos to physical therapistsstrongWith the city coming out of bankruptcy, the San Joaquin Delta polluted by hyacinth, and national news reporting doom and gloom, the last place I expected to find a welcome change of pace was Central Valley Physical Therapy especially considering the assurance that my success there depended on the degree to which I would let them hurt meThroughout 34 sessions of literally pushing me through scar tissue after total knee replacement in May, the entire staff at Central Valley Therapy in Stockton was remarkably competent and caring Not once did I sit in the waiting room more than five minutes Not once did I find my therapist and his many assistants anything but attentive and engaging Not once did I dread going back for moreHopefully, Central Valley Therapy staff goes home with a sense of professional accomplishment, feeling appreciated Their services strengthen weak muscles, provide stability to wobbly legs and lift the spirits of patrons in need Stockton is fortunate to be home to a business so welcoming and worthwhile"
